Assam Police apprehended 18 Bangladeshi nationals in separate Guwahati operations and initiated legal proceedings for their expulsion from India under applicable law.

Guwahati: Assam police have apprehended 18 Bangladeshi nationals in separate operations in Guwahati in the last 24 hours.

Assam police stated that on October 6 at about 2:30 PM, during our routine survey/checking inside the coaches in Guwahati Railway Station, Panbazar PS Border Branch apprehended 4 female and 1 Male Bangladeshi Nationals from General Coach of “Lokamanya Tilak Terminal Express” which was scheduled to depart from Guwahati to Lokamanya Tilak Terminus, Maharashtra at 3.00 PM.

Police said that three Aadhaar cards had been found from their possession out of which one Aadhaar number is genuine. The woman who possessed the genuine Aadhaar had come earlier also and got married to someone in Gujarat as revealed during interrogation.


During preliminary enquiry, it was revealed that they were intending to travel to Mumbai by train in search of employment/ work. They have entered India illegally without possessing any valid documents and confessed themselves to be Bangladeshi Nationals. They belong from Dhaka, Bogura, Rajbari,.Narial, Jamalpur districts of Bangladesh.

Police said that on further enquiry, they reportedly disclosed that they had entered India illegally through the Meghalaya border by land route without possessing any valid travel or identity documents. During interrogation they stated that they stayed in a Hotel in Guwahati

and due to harbouring and based on having nexus with the Bangladeshi touts a case has been registered in the Panbazar PS vide Panbazar PS Case No.225/26 against the owner of the hotel and other staff who facilitates these illegal Bangladeshi Nationals during their stay and scheduled departure towards Mumbai.

During investigation of the case Panbazar Police has already arrested four persons including the owner of the hotel.

In another separate operation on Wednesday at around 2.30 PM based on an input Border Branch of police Commissionerate Guwahati conducted a raid at the hotel and had been able to apprehend 13 Bangladeshi Nationals (4 male, 4 female and 5 Children) from the Hotel. They had reached Guwahati from Delhi and wanted to go back to Bangladesh. During interrogation they confessed that they stayed illegally in India for the last 14/15 years near Pantha Chowk in Srinagar and as Srinagar Police had launched a massive crackdown against Bangladeshis staying illegally in Srinagar hence, they fled from there and reached Guwahati to go back to their country of origin Bangladesh.

Police informed that further necessary legal action/process is being initiated as per law for their expulsion from India following the provisions of Immigrants (Expulsion) from Assam Act, 1950.
