Operations of 98 Covid-19 hospitals damaged by cyclone Tauktae have resumed, while 32 remained to be restored. The Army provided back up to Ahmedabad’s Dhanvantri Hospital. Tauktae was responsible for at least 168 deaths. Of these, 70 were in Gujarat and 49 workers who were in ONGC’s barge P305. The Navy rescued 186 while 26 were still missing. Search for survivors from the barge continued, with 31 ships, P8I maritime aircraft and helicopters deployed.

Among 18 oxygen plants impacted due to Tauktae, 10, including the one in Jamnagar, have been restored. PM Modi during a review had directed authorities to take special care to ensure least disruption in oxygen supply from Jamnagar. State and central authorities were able to set up power backup in all Covid-19 hospitals in Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Diu and Lakshadweep.


“Adequate buffer stocks of oxygen cylinders, concentrators and ventilators were supplied to Covid-19 hospitals to avoid shortages,” said a senior government official. The National Crisis Management Committee headed by cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba on Thursday reviewed damages caused due to the cyclone. Due to timely action, functioning of hospitals and Covid-19 care centres remained functional, said a home ministry statement.
