Kolkata: A 983-page chargesheet has been submitted against 13 accused by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of West Bengal Police in Murshidabad's Jangipur court in connection with the gruesome double-murder of Hargobindo Das and Chandan Das, in the district's Jafarabad in April this year, when communal violence broke out over movement against the Waqf (Amendment) Act turned violent. The chargesheet has been filed 56 days after the double murder.

"The 983-page chargesheet has been submitted against 13 accused persons 56 days after the incident of double-murder in Jafarabad. All accused persons are presently in Judicial Custody." DIG-Murshidabad Range Syed Waquar Raza told ET.

Altogether 13 persons have been named as accused in the chargesheet, in connection with the brutal murder of the father and son duo at Jafarabad in Murshidabad district. The chargesheet has been submitted in Jangipur court in Murshidabad. All 13 are presently in judicial custody, police said.


Charges has been framed under Sections 204/25 u/s 191(1)(2) (3) /332 /331 (1)(2) (3)/310 (2)/334 / 103 (2)/3(5) of BNS with section 25/27 Arms Act, people in the know said.

The violence broke out in various areas of Murshidabad like Dhulian, Suti, and Samserganj’s Jafrabad on April 8 this year. BSF was called to bring the situation under control. Later, CAPF was deployed on April 12 night, following a Calcutta High Court order by a bench of Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury, which was specially constituted to hear the matters related to Murshidabad violence.
