Centre tells SC it has formed 12-member panel to review NEET-PG.

New Delhi: The Centre informed the Supreme Court on Tuesday that it has constituted a 12-member expert committee to review the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for postgraduates.

A bench of justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe was apprised by the Centre's counsel that the committee's terms of reference include formulating a mechanism for a "comprehensive audit" of the existing NEET-PG admission system, identifying lacunae and gaps in the system, and proposing practical solutions.

The development took place during the hearing of a plea challenging the decision to lower the qualifying cut-off percentiles for the NEET-PG 2025 examination. The Centre's counsel placed on record an office order issued by the Directorate General of Health Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The order stated that the committee would work under the chairmanship of DGHS Dr Loveneesh G Krishna, with Dr Praveen Kumar Dass, assistant DG (ME), serving as the member secretary.

'8 weeks to submit report'

When the bench enquired about the timeline for completion of the exercise, counsel for the Centre submitted that the committee would require eight weeks to submit its report after inviting suggestions from stakeholders.

Accordingly, the SC directed the committee to invite suggestions from stakeholders and submit its report within eight weeks.
