Thirteen killed in road accident in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur as Tata Sumo crashed into tanker

Thirteen people lost their lives and one got badly injured when the SUV they were riding in collided into a stalled tanker in Chikkaballapur on Thursday morning. The incident happened outside Chikkaballapur, the town housing the district headquarters.

Thirteen people, including four ladies, were instantly killed when the driver of the SUV, which was traveling from Bagepalli to Chikkaballapur, collided with the stationary tanker. According to sources, one person suffered serious injuries and is receiving treatment in a local hospital.

According to reports, the vehicle was plying from Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh to Bengaluru when the driver crashed into the stationary tanker on NH 44.


"Twelve people died on the spot in the accident while one critically injured person who was being treated at a nearby hospital succumbed to injuries. All of them were travelling in the vehicle from Anantapur to Bengaluru and on the way, the vehicle collided with a stationary tanker," D L Nagesh, Superintendent of Police (Chikkaballapur) had initially told news agency PTI.

Police added, "According to the information, the victims were coming from Andhra Pradesh."

According to the police, the deceased lived in Bengaluru's Hongasandra and belonged to Gorantla in Andhra Pradesh.
