‘10 mn Indians live in GCC’: India flags Middle East stakes, Seafarer safety at UNSC
India has called for immediate de-escalation and a resolution to the Middle East conflict through dialogue and diplomacy at a United Nations Security Council open debate. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, condemned attacks on civilian infrastructure and commercial shipping, including the India-flagged MV DP World Kaveri, and expressed concern over the death of Indian citizen Mohammed Yusuf Ali in Riyadh. Harish said the safety and well-being of around 10 million Indians living in GCC countries remain a core priority for India. He also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal for a seafarers’ emergency support network to help coordinate distress alerts, medical assistance, family communication and evacuation support.
