The accident occurred around midnight on Friday on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway under the jurisdiction of Meja police station. All the 10 people travelling in the Bolero died in the accident, while those in the bus suffered minor injuries, Deputy Commissioner of Police Yamunanagar, Vivek Chandra Yadav said. He confirmed that the bodies have been sent to Swaroop Rani Medical Hospital for post-mortem, and further proceedings are underway.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the bereaved families and directed officials to expedite relief efforts. He also instructed the district administration to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and wished them a speedy recovery, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s office.
The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13 and will continue until February 26, is being held at the Triveni Sangam—the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.
Despite a deadly stampede on January 29, the fair continues to draw millions of pilgrims daily. As of 6 PM on Friday, over 92 lakh devotees had taken a dip, pushing the total footfall past 50 crore as of February 14, according to government data.
