Prime Minister Modi's recent visit to Lakshadweep and the subsequent criticism from Maldivian politicians have sparked a surge in global interest in the Union Territory. Travel booking websites are reporting a significant increase in searches for Lakshadweep.

Lakshadweep, India's smallest Union Territory, consists of 36 islands, 12 atolls, and three reefs. However, it is important to note that not all of these islands are populated, and only a few are accessible to visitors. Special permits are required to visit these islands.

Among the top destinations in Lakshadweep are Minicoy Island, Kalpeni Islands, Kadmat Islands, Bangaram Island, and Thinnakara Island.

Here is a simple guide on how to obtain the necessary permit to visit Lakshadweep:

1. Online Application: The most convenient way to obtain a permit is through the ePermit portal. Visitors can create an account, fill out the form with the required details, choose their preferred island and travel dates, upload the necessary documents, and make the payment. The permit is typically delivered via email 15 days before the scheduled trip.

2. Offline Application: Alternatively, applicants can download the application form from the Lakshadweep Administration website or obtain it from the District Collector's office in Kavaratti. The completed form, along with the required documents, should be submitted to the Collector's office. Please note that the offline process may take longer, so it is advisable to plan much before your arrival.
