The biggest difference between deleting the facebook account and deactivating it is if you deactivate your Facebook account, you may always reactivate it later, but if you delete your Facebook account, your account will be permanently removed from Facebook including your photos, posts, comments etc.
If you're concerned about your online privacy, or just want to cut off yourself from social media, there are two ways to get rid of a Facebook account: You can temporarily deactivate your account or choose to permanently delete it.

The biggest difference between deleting the facebook account and deactivating it is if you deactivate your Facebook account, you may always reactivate it later, but if you delete your Facebook account, your account will be permanently removed from Facebook including your photos, posts, comments etc.

Steps to deactivate your facebook account are:

1: In the upper right corner of Facebook, click on your account.

2: Select Settings and Privacy, then click on Settings & Security.

3: Click Your Facebook Information in the left column. When using the new Pages experience, if you have access to a page on Facebook: Click Privacy, then click Your Facebook Information.

4: To deactivate, click Deactivation and Deletion.

5: Deactivate your account by selecting the option and then clicking Continue to Account Deactivation.

Steps to delete your facebook account:
1: In the upper right corner of Facebook, click on your account.

2: Select Settings and Privacy, then click on Settings.

3: Click Your Facebook Information in the left column. When using the new Pages experience, if you have access to a page on Facebook: Click Privacy, then click Your Facebook Information.

4: After that, Click Deactivation and Deletion.

5: Continue to Account Deletion by selecting Delete Account and then clicking on the Continue button.

6: Enter your password and then click on the Delete Account button to remove your account.

After deleting your account you won't be able to reactivate your account. Your profile, photos, posts, videos and everything else you've added will be permanently deleted. You won't be able to retrieve anything you've added.
