Consumer Rights Day: How to lodge an online complaint on e-Daakhil

Today is Consumer Rights Day, the day that reminds us of the rights of consumers. Many consumers are not aware of their rights, and many don't know how to get redress for their problems. These days it's easy for a consumer to lodge a complaint online. What makes the job easy is the E-Daakhil online portal, launched by the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in 2020, which allows consumers to file online complaints at different consumer forums. If the claim is up to Rs 5 lakh, the case will be heard for free.

Here are the steps to follow for lodging an online complaint in different forums:

1. Go to the portal e-Daakhil (https://edaakhil.nic.in/edaakhil/)
2. Click on the "Complain" button located at the top left corner of the page.
3. Then register by providing personal information including name, phone number, email, and address.
4. Select the complaint type from the drop-down menu based on the value of your grievance claim:

   

5. Write a detailed description of the complaint in the provided box. You can write the description in both Hindi and English.
6. Attach any supporting documents related to the complaint.
7. Enter the captcha code displayed on the screen.
8. Click on the "Submit" button to file the complaint.
9. After submitting the complaint, you will receive a complaint ID that you can use to track the status of the complaint.

You can pay court fees online through UPI or net banking. Within 48 hours, the case will be acknowledged, and the redress process will begin, which takes one month to complete. Besides, you can also track the messages sent to the brand and consumer.


If you face any problem while filing a complaint, you can hire a lawyer to fill out the form for you. You can use the same login credentials to file the complaint again. The court follow-up will be done through video conferencing and the time and slot will be sent through your registered phone number and email id.
