Two arrested for killing pet hornbill

AIZAWL: Two persons accused of killing a pet hornbill were arrested and sent to jail custody here, officials said.

These residents of Zemabawk locality near here were arrested by the officials of the state environment and forest department were sent to jail custody by a local court on Saturday, officials said.

The hornbill, owned by Zairema of Chaltlang locality was killed by two persons on February one which triggered public outcry.

The hornbill, fondly called 'Zika', was specially loved by children who would bring extra food like tomato to hand feed the hornbill.
