A dog, who tried to save his master from miscreants, was beaten to death by them inviting wrath from animal lovers and activists here.

DEHRA DUN: A dog, who tried to save his master from miscreants, was beaten to death by them inviting wrath from animal lovers and activists here.

The incident took place last evening when Vikas Sharma along with two others got involved in an altercation with a shopkeeper. As the trio tried to attack the shopkeeper with hockey sticks, the dog came in their way, police said on Tuesday.

Sharma allegedly repeatedly attacked the dog with a hockey stick, who died instantly. Soon, a large number of people gathered in the area and People For Animal activists lodged an FIR in the police station.

Police has sent the body of dog for postmortem and said it would take stern action against the culprit.
