Thousands form human chain against polythene bags

Thousands of people, including school children, made a human chain stretching about 17 km this morning as part of the campaign launched by the Municipal Corporation against the use of polythene bags here.

AGRA: Thousands of people, including school children, made a human chain stretching about 17 km this morning as part of the campaign launched by the Municipal Corporation against the use of polythene bags here.

"Around 75,000 people took part in the campaign which will continue till December 31," Municipal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said.

From January 1, the shopkeepers who use such bags will be prosecuted, he said.

He said the campaign has support of over a hundred organisations and all the political parties.

The corporation was also distributing one lakh cloth bags for encouraging people to stop using polythene bags.
