Mark the World Water Day by conserving every drop: Experts
While the globe of Earth is primarily covered with water with more than 70 per cent coverd with oceans, the potable freshwater is no more than 2.5 per cent.
World Water Day is being celebrated on 22nd March by the UNESCO since 1993. This year’s theme is ‘Water and Energy’ that aims to communicate messages that water and energy are closely interlinked and interdependent. Organizations such as Gujarat Science City are planning awareness activities to spread awareness about the issue and urge citizens to stop wastage of water.
“This year’s theme is apt as saving water is saving energy and vice versa. We use a huge amount of energy to disseminate the water to every household. If we reduce the consumption, it would reduce the load on distribution system. What we want to emphasize is, check the leaking water taps, don’t hoard the water and use it judiciously so that the life source continues to be revitalized,” said a Science City official.
