Lions Club Ludhiana to plant 1,000 trees this month

This is a part of the billion tree campaign programme of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

LUDHIANA: With an aim to increase green cover in the city, members of Lions Club Ludhiana launched the one thousand tree plantation campaign that started on July 15 and it will continue till July 18 at South City Extension. This is a part of the billion tree campaign programme of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

While giving the information about the activity, Pritpal Singh Narang - public relations officer of the club, said that the club wants to organize such kind of community projects for creating awareness among the masses making them understand the importance of planting and saving trees. He further said there is great need to make people learn about taking care of trees and nurturing them.

Pritpal Singh also said that B S Jandu - chief motivator of this project, has engaged six gardeners permanently to nurture one thousand plants.

Lions Club International last year gave a clarion call to 45000 Lons Clubs in 206 countries to plant one million trees and 1.3 million Lion members planted more that five million trees which has been appreciated and acknowledged by UNEP.
