ICAS Manipal student's painting depicting Earth in peril wins first prize in national painting competition.

MANIPAL: The painting of Tirthak Saha, a third semester student of International Centre for Applied Sciences (ICAS), Manipal University, depicting Earth in peril won the first prize at a national level competition.

His painting depicted the warming Earth and the melting Polar ice caps amidst the doomsday scenario.

He received the prize and a plaque from the Union Minister of State for Earth Sciences, Dr Ashwani Kumar at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on the occasion of Ministry of Earth Sciences foundation day on July 27.

The competition was initially held at different institutions across the country and then, the prize-winnings paintings from all centres were sent to Delhi where Tirthak's painting was adjudged the best.

The ICAS student's painting won the first prize in the inter-collegiate contest held at MIT Manipal on April 22 to mark Earth Day. Along with painting, other competitions like quiz, slogan writing, poster, debate and collage were also held in all institutions. Ministry of Earth Sciences sponsored the entire competition.
