Himalayan bear cub rescued by forest officials

A three-month-old cub of black Himalayan bear, found deep inside a forest in Baramura hill range of West Tripura district, was rescued from a tribal's home and sent to a sanctuary.

AGARTALA: A three-month-old cub of black Himalayan bear, found deep inside a forest in Baramura hill range of West Tripura district, was rescued from a tribal's home and sent to a sanctuary.

Forest department authorities said a tribal was collecting firewood yesterday when he spotted the cub and brought it home.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of special forest protection force later raided the house of the tribal at Takchhaiya and took the cub to a zoo located inside Sipahijala Sanctuary.

The said, as per the report of the animal census conducted in 2002, there were 35 black himalayan bear in Tripura. After 2002, no animal census was conducted in the state.
