Continuing stringent action against establishments dumping garbage into the Nag river, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) slapped a penalty of Rs50,000 on Kusumtai Wankhede hall on Sunday.

NAGPUR: Continuing stringent action against establishments dumping garbage into the Nag river, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) slapped a penalty of Rs50,000 on Kusumtai Wankhede hall on Sunday.

Dr Ashok Urkude, health officer (sanitation), said its flying squad, while patrolling Nag river bank, spotted some employees of Kumsumtai Wankhede hall on North Ambazari road disposing of garbage into Nag river. The squad issued a notice and directed the management of hall to pay a fine of Rs50,000.

The squad also spotted a cycle rickshaw driver throwing food waste into Nag river near Dhantoli police station. Upon inquiry, they came to know the food waste was from Gujarati Bhavan in Dhantoli. A notice has been slapped on the Bhavan to pay a fine of Rs30,000. Similarly, the squad also caught staff of Hotel Hardeo at Sitabuldi disposing of garbage in an open container. It slapped a a fine of Rs50,000 on the hotel.

Meanwhile, in a drive against shopkeepers keeping banned polythene bags of less than 50 micron thickness, the health department penalized 25 retailers, traders and roadside vendors.
