In a bid to make the Narmada river pollution free, MP's urban administration department has sanctioned a Rs 50 lakh scheme for laying down sewage line at its origin in Amarkantak.

BHOPAL: In a bid to make the Narmada river pollution free, Madhya Pradesh's urban administration department has sanctioned a Rs 50 lakh scheme for laying down sewage line at its origin in Amarkantak.

The plan prepared by public health engineering (PHE) department was presented to the state's urban administration minister Babulal Gaur during his recent visit to the holy town, official sources said.

As per the plan, a 1.5 km long sewage line will be laid in the town and waste water generated in the city will be treated in a plant. This will help in preventing it (waste disposal) from mixing in Narmada at its origin, they said.

Gaur has also directed officials to clean septic tanks of hotels, houses and hostels with the help of suction machines to ensure cleanliness in the holy town, the sources said.
