Now, you can rate your home green, thanks to the Indian Green Building Council which has launched the Green Home Rating System for the residential sector.

HYDERABAD: For the first time in India you can rate your home green, thanks to the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) which has launched the Green Home Rating System for the residential sector.

The rating system is the first ecological rating programme developed in India, exclusively for the residential sector. The system will address the most important issues like conservation of natural resources, infrastructure, water & energy efficiency, handling of domestic waste, health and well-being of the occupants.

The scheme was launched by K K Bhattacharya, Senior Executive Director, DLF Utilities Pvt Ltd in Hyderabad.

The rating system is being put in place to ensure that the residential sector in India contributes towards optimal use of natural resources and results in water savings to the tune of 30 to 50 per cent; energy savings to the tune of 20 to 30 per cent; excellent day lighting; enhanced ventilation; water efficient green cover; effective waste management; health & well being of the occupants.

Dr Prem C Jain, Chairman, IGBC said, "It is critical for the health and well being of every individual to adopt green measures in their homes because we spend longer hours at home. Hence this rating system would do a great service to us."

The projects are spread across Kolkata, Chandigarh, Guwahati, Goa, Mumbai, Pune Hyderabad, Chennai, Kerala, Bangalore, and Pondicherry.
