Poll official concerned over noise pollution

Beating of drums and blowing of trumpets might be a favourite electioneering style for the poll candidates but the CEO of Delhi is concerned about the noise pollution caused during canvassing.

NEW DELHI: Beating of drums and blowing of trumpets might be a favourite electioneering style for the poll candidates but the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi is concerned about the noise pollution caused during canvassing.

"We have asked the police and political parties to reach a consensus on employing drum-beaters and number of vehicles to be used during the poll campaigning, to ensure minimum trouble to common man," CEO Satbir Silas Bedi said.

"Bandwalas are engaged for election rallies, public meetings and padayatras. Since it is the responsibility of police to ensure law and order during the election rallies, we expect them to take steps accordingly," she added.

A meeting is scheduled to be held soon between the police and representatives of political parties to reach a consensus over the issue. "Our officials will also attend the meeting to give their views," Bedi added.
