PIL seeks direction for state govt on Gomti pollution

LUCKNOW: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court directed the state counsel to seek instructions from UP government on a PIL seeking direction to authorities to take appropriate action to protect the life and livelihood of residents from polluted waters of river Gomti.

Referring to a news report published in a local Hindi daily, senior advocate Virendra Bhatia argued on behalf of the petitioner that that water of Gomti in Chinhat has become much polluted, which was hazardous for men and animals.

While directing the government counsel to seek instructions from the state government, a division bench comprising Justice Pradeep Kant and Justice Rituraj Awasthi fixed July 8 as the next date of hearing on the PIL filed by a local lawyer.
