Ram Engineering, a Mumbai-based agency, has bagged the contract for comprehensive beach cleaning of Goa's 105km coastline through mechanized and manual methods.

PANAJI: Ram Engineering, a Mumbai-based agency, has bagged the contract for comprehensive beach cleaning of Goa's 105km coastline through mechanized and manual methods.

The services is for a period of five years, and an agreement will be signed in a few days. The tendering process was completed on Thursday.

Ram Engineering quoted 13 crore per year and was the lowest bidder as against Eco Clean and BVG.

Mechanized beach cleaning will be done at selected beaches and cleaning at others will be manually carried out.

"Depending on its success, it will be done at other beaches as well. Measures will be taken not to destroy sand dunes and turtle nesting sites, said a source.

Additionally, the selected agency will require to sort out collected waste before it is disposed off in a scientific manner. Though the tourism department has appointed agents to collect garbage there is no segregation involved and they dump the waste wherever they find place.
