KOZHIKODE: Ahead of Sabarimala pilgrimage season this year, Kerala government would convene a meeting of officials of South Indian States to address the pollution caused due to dumping of non-degradable plastic containers by pilgrims visiting the hill shrine.

The pollution caused by dumping of such materials along the Sabarimala route is an area of major concern and government would soon convene the meeting to tackle the issue, Kerala Devaswom Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran told a 'Meet-the-Press programme' here.

Lakhs of Lord Ayyappa devotees across India, mostly from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, visit the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple during the two-month pilgrimage season that begins from the Malayalam month of 'Vrishchikam' (Mid November).

The Congress (S) leader took charge of the Devaswom Ministry recently.
