HC notice to govt on polythene ban

The Rajasthan High Court has issued show cause notice on state government asking why the use, manufacture and sale of polythene be not banned as it is causing environment pollution.

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan High Court has issued show cause notice on state government asking why the use, manufacture and sale of polythene be not banned as it is causing environment pollution.

A division bench of Chief Justice Jagdish Bhalla and Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari intervened on a PIL and issued show cause notices on chief secretary, secretary pollution control board and secretary local self governance department Rajasthan.

The PIL filed by Ajmer-based NGO Common Cause Society had contended that polythene was the biggest pollutant in the tourist places, including major protected monuments.

The petition had requested ban on the use and sale of non-recyclable polythene in the state and a direction asking government to lift the ban on coloured polythene.
