Haryana bans use of plastic near sanctuaries, national parks
The Haryana government has decided to ban use of all types of plastic articles near wildlife sanctuaries and national parks with an aim to protect their ecology.
The state government has also prohibited their use within the municipal limits of Thanesar, Kurukshetra and gram panchayat of Morni in view of their special historical, religious and ecological significance, an official release said.
The state Cabinet, which met today, also decided to ban manufacture of plastic carry bags having thickness of less than 30 microns and size less than 8x12 inches.
"The state Cabinet approved a notification imposing the ban by directing that no person shall manufacture plastic carry bags having thickness of less than 30 microns and size less than 8x12 inches in the State of Haryana," the release said.
The decision was taken in view of the detrimental effect of polythene bags on environment and local ecology, it said.
The move coincides with the Haryana government announcing a new Tourism Policy-2007, which aims to seek private participation and bolster infrastructure to attract tourists.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the Tourism Policy would have a two-fold institutional mechanism, which would include a Tourism Development Council, headed by the Chief Minister himself, and a Land Bank.
