NEW DELHI: The state's forest department on Friday decided to set up a well-equipped Tiger Transit Rescue Centre at Ramnagar town in Nainital district with immediate effect.

The chief wildlife warden Srikant Chandola said this will be Uttarakhand's first rescue centre of its kind, where only the trapped man-eating leopards and tigers will be kept for their proper conservation. Chandola said, no other endangered animal will be kept here.

"The objective will be to concentrate on the overall care and conservation of endangered species of the big cat," Chandola said.
