A pair of leopards arrived at Rajkot Zoological Park from Junagadh's Sakkarbaug Zoo.This has taken up the number of leopards to four at the municipal corporation-run Rajkot zoo.

RAJKOT: A pair of leopards arrived at Rajkot Zoological Park from Junagadh's Sakkarbaug Zoo. This has taken up the number of leopards to four at the municipal corporation-run Rajkot zoo.

Rajkot Zoological Park superintendent R K Hirapara said the male-female pair will be kept in isolation for sometime. These leopards will be brought in an open enclosure for public display only after a week.

"There are now 72 animals of 17 different species at the Rajkot zoo. We plan to continue adding new species, which presently has lion, tiger, leopard, four-horned antelope, crocodile, chinkara, sambhar, blackbucks among other animals and birds," Hirapara added.

RMC in its budget had allotted Rs 10 crore for the development of infrastructure in the zoo that is spread in 55.37 ha area. Approximately 3,500 people visit the zoo every weekend.
