Two leopard skins, 3 held in Meerut

A joint team of Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force and Wildlife Trust of India seized two leopard skins from the possession of three persons who were arrested in Meerut.

NEW DELHI: A joint team of Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force and Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) seized two leopard skins from the possession of three persons who were arrested in Meerut.

"The traders had been tracked by the UP officials in decoy deals over several months and our team members. The location of the deal was changed four times and finally last night one of the traders came in with a leopard skin," Ashok Kumar, vice chairman of WTI. said.

He said a deal was struck with the accused who were later arrested with the skins which are banned items as per Wildlife Protection Act.

One skin was found in tact with nails and canines and we are awaiting the report on the state of the other skin, Kumar added.

The police is interrogating the accused to ascertain the source of the leopard skins.
