BANGALORE: It's a grim year-end for Karnataka's wildlife: Two adult elephants were shot dead on Saturday in the Kaglipura range of Bannerghatta National Park.

The tusk of one of them was removed. In a second incident, a tiger cub was found dead on Saturday morning at the Moleyur (Bandipur) tiger reserve. The cub, however, died in a territorial fight, officials said.

"We've begun investigations and are documenting all deaths. We'll initiate action soon," additional principal chief conservator of forests, B K Singh said.

Singh will be visiting Bannerghatta National Park on Sunday to investigate the elephants' deaths.
