Translocation of tigresses to Panna Reserve deferred

The translocation of two more tigresses from Kanha Tiger Reserve to Panna was today deferred for a few days after injury to one of the felines.

BHOPAL: The translocation of two more tigresses from Kanha Tiger Reserve to Panna was today deferred for a few days after injury to one of the felines.

"The translocation of two tigresses - both around five and a half years old has been deferred for a few days. One of the two tigresses sustained minor injuries possibly while playing, recently. It is a common cause of injury among them," Kanha Deputy Field Director H S Mohanta told PTI.

"Once, the tigress is fit, the translocation will take place as we don't want to take any risk," Kanha Field Director H S Negi said.

According to the plan, the two tigresses were to be brought by road from Kanha to Panna, both situated in eastern Madhya Pradesh. The distance between the two reserves is around 450 km.

These two felines will be tranquilised and brought to Panna, officials said.

These two tigresses to be brought to Panna had been reared in an enclosure in Kanha after these striped animals were orphaned after their mother death, they said.
