BHUBANESWAR: The carcass of a Royal Bengal tigress was found at Dhubru Champa under Jodapal beat of the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR).

The tigress was 15-year-old and 8ft 2inches long from the tip of its nose to the end of tail, official sources said. The body was traced on Thursday.

"Most probably it was a natural death as no injury marks were found on her body. The skin of the tigress was also intact so poaching was also ruled out," said field director of STR Anup Kumar Nayak.

STR deputy director Bikash Ranjan Das along with veterinary assistant surgeon, Jashipur had gone to the spot to conduct a postmortem.

The cause of the death of the tigress would be known only after the post mortem report comes in, sources said.
