Tiger found dead in Nagarahole

A tiger was found dead in Antharasanthe range of Nagarahole National forest on Friday.

MYSORE: A tiger was found dead in Antharasanthe range of Nagarahole National forest on Friday.

Forest officers claim the 15-month-old cub has died due to infighting and its body was found ripped into pieces near Kumara Hatti inside the tiger reserve.

It bore multiple wound marks all over the body and officials claim they have found evidence that a big cat may have attacked it some two days back.

This is perhaps the third incident of tigers dying due to infighting - three in Nagarahole and one in Bandipur tiger reserve since January.

B J Hosmath, field director of Project Tiger, Karnataka, told TOI according to our preliminary investigation, the tiger cub has been attacked by an adult in Antharasanthe Range of Nagarahole. It came to our notice on the morning of Friday when our staff was patrolling the area.

"It is purely a case of infighting as the cub has suffered multiple deep injures over his neck region. Its body was found cut into pieces. We have collected its femur bone which will be sent to a lab in Hyderabad to establish the gender," Hosmath disclosed.
