Three held for trading in snake venom
Three persons, including a senior education department official, were arrested for illegally possessing and trading in snake venom.
The Kerala forest department officials also recovered 22 grams of poison worth over Rs six lakhs in the international market from their possession.
On a tip off that some persons were illegally possessing and trading in snake venom, which is in demand for manufacture of narcotic drugs and anti-venom medicines, the officials seized 22 gram of snake poison in crystal form from three persons at a lodge, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) N T Sajan said.
Junior Superintendent in the office of Deputy Director of Education K Narayanan, T Mathew and E Soman were arrested under the Wildlife (Prevention) Act 1972, he said.
Narayanan was allegedly acting as mediator in the sale of the cobra venom.
