CHANDRAPUR: Forest department officials have arrested three persons in connection with a case of tiger poaching which had come to light in April this year.

Two tigers were found trapped in deadly steel jaw-traps, set in multiple, in Gondmohadi beat of Palasgaon range (120 km from here) in April. One of the beasts died while the other suffered injuries.

The officials had arrested Tanoji Hanvate and Motiram Dadmal, residents of village Deori in Chimur tehsil, on Sept 3 on the charges of setting wire-snares on their farms for trapping the animal who damage the crops.

Sources said that the two farmers revealed that Shriram Fakira Atram (48) of Madnapur village was involved in the tiger poaching case.

Assistant Conservator of Forests, Arun Tikhe, said that Atram's house was raided yesterday and a defunct steel jaw-trap and other materials used in trapping wild animals were recovered.

Atram was remanded in three-day custody of Forest Officials by Chimur court today.
