Sunstroke kills four peacocks in Maharashtra

Four peacocks in Maharashtra died due to sun stroke, according to the state government. The statement to this effect was made by forest minister Patangrao Kadam in the state legislative council on Tuesday.

MUMBAI: Four peacocks in Maharashtra died due to sun stroke, according to the state government. The statement to this effect was made by forest minister Patangrao Kadam in the state legislative council on Tuesday. He was replying to a query over wildlife issues raised by members in the house during the zero hour.

“The state government is taking proper care of the wildlife in its jurisdiction. Recruitment for the vacant posts will soon be done by the department,” Kadam said, adding, “Four peacocks have died due to sunstroke in the state.”

During the debate several legislators alleged that there are encroachments in the Tiger reserves. “I assure the members that there are no villages in the buffer zone,” Kadam replied.

Besides this the minister assured the members that department has taken several steps to strengthen the state’s forest department.
