FAIZABAD: The forest department has constituted special squads for killing a man-eater following the rampage of the beast in the district for the last three months during which it claimed four lives.

The forest department has decided to eliminate the tiger that has killed four persons in the district since December 26, 2008, said District Forest Officer (DFO) O P Singh.

In the last three months of its prowling from Pilibhit to Faizabad via Barabanki, it has killed four persons eating up the middle portion of their bodies, he said.

Its fourth prey, Sarju (50), a resident of Surajpur village near Rampur Janak forest reserve in Rudauli tehsil of the district was attacked by the animal in the midnight of January 10/11, he said.

The villagers recovered Sarju's half eaten body in the jungle on January 11. Earlier, the beast had killed two persons in Pilibhit and one in Barabanki, the officer said.

After getting green signals from the National Tiger Conservation Authority and Wildlife Trust of India, shooting teams were moved in deep woods for eliminating the man-eater, the DFO added.
