Slain tigress found in Corbett’s range
An 8-member team of forest guards led by wildlife warden Satish Upadhyay recovered a mutilated carcass of a 6-year-old tigress early on Friday.
CNP director Ranjan Mishra said a team of forest guards on a routine round trip of the Kalagarh forest range found the tigress’ body at 6am. A senior IFS officer said they had beefed up security and sounded a red alert in the park since the last week on a report that members of the Bavaria gang had managed to enter the park to poach big cats.
According to a senior IFS officer, the body appeared to be of a tigress killed by a sharp-edged weapon. He said that the post-mortem of the carcass was on being done by a three-member team of veterinary surgeons
“Once it is ascertained that the female tiger was poached by members of Bawaria gang we will intensify efforts to nab them,” said Upadhyay.
