Six held, handed over to forest dept for killing black buck

Six poachers, who had allegedly killed a black buck, were caught and handed over to the forest department officials.

SEONI (MP): Six poachers, who had allegedly killed a black buck, were caught and handed over to the forest department officials.

The poachers had killed the animal with an electric trap last night at Munjwani village near here, forest department officials said, adding that they have recovered the black buck's hide and other parts also.

The accused had put a trap and connected it with an overhead electricity supply line to kill animals in a field from where the animals, mostly deer, usually pass through to drink water, Area Ranger Sandeep Gautam said.

He said that the forest department officials got the sniff of the poachers and alerted villagers.

Gautam said, "the poachers were caught by the villagers last night and handed over to us this morning." He said that they have recovered the electric stuff used in killing the animal from the accused Sriram Lodhi, Brijmohan Lodhi, F Lodhi, Ranjeet Lodhi, Gangaram and Balram Lodhi.

The poachers have been booked under the relevant sections of Wildlife Protection Act.
