Sector 21 to lead ‘green revolution’
Not just neighbourhood parks, green belts too will bloom again.
Resident welfare association (RWA) of Sector 21 has requested municipal corporation to allow them to adopt the green belts along with the neighbourhood parks in their area. MC authorities had in principal agreed to give some green belts of Sector 21 to the RWA, however a formal decision is yet to be taken in this regard.
Baljinder Singh, president of the citizens association of Sector 21, said, “We asked MC to allow us to adopt all the green belts and neighbourhood parks of Sector 21.” Gurtej Singh, a resident, said, “We make it a point to go jogging together in the morning and many more like us visit these green belts everyday. Thus, their upkeep is very important and RWA can look after it better than MC.”
Area councillor Mukesh Bassi said, “If we want to maintain the tag of ‘City Beautiful’ for Chandigarh such steps need to be taken by RWAs.”
Mukesh Anand, superintending engineer of the MC, said, “We are looking into the possibility of allowing the Sector-21 RWA to adopt the green belts. A decision in this regard will be taken soon.”
