Save the sparrow
On the eve of World Sparrow Day, bird lovers from the city have launched a drive to spread awareness on preserving sparrows and increasing their population.
"We provided information about sparrows and methods to conserve them. Students were made aware about importance of having sparrow nests and water source for the little birds during summers. Schools should, in fact, organize such awareness programmes regularly as it can help in sparrow conservation. We also distributed sparrow nests to the students," said Vishal Thakur of Canine Group Association, Vadodara. Members of Swayam Group too joined the programmes held on Wednesday.
Students of New Era will stand at three gates of Kamatibaug and request visitors to buy sparrow nests. The students will also create awareness in residential colonies on Thursday that is celebrated as World Sparrow Day. A city-based real estate group has also organized a photography competition based on the theme 'House Sparrow – Our Missing Neighbour'. The initiative is to create awareness about rapid extinction of sparrows from our surroundings. Well-known wild life photographers Ashwin Trivedi, Manoj Thaker and Vinay Panjwani will be judges in the contest.
