TEZPUR: An adult rhino was allegedly shot dead by forest guards when it attacked them at Barbheti village in Assam's Sonitupr district on Saturday, police said.


The rhino attacked a team of five forest guards around 8.30am when they were trying to guide the straying animal back to the Kaziranga National Park, forest department officials said.

The rhino, which strayed into the village about five days ago, received five bullet injuries and died on the spot.
