KOLKATA: A rhino carcass minus its horn was found in the north range of Jaldapara National park in North Bengal, a top forest official said on Saturday.

"It is a fresh carcass and the horn is missing", state chief wildlife warden Ujjwal Bhattacharya told PTI.

He dubbed it as matter of 'concern' and said that investigation was being done into the incident.

He said it was being investigated whether there was any bullet injury to the rhino, which is a flagship species to Jaldapara, whose carcass was found last evening.

Even if there was no injury, the absence of the horn would be investigated, he said.

Bhattacharya, however, said there was no laxity in patrolling.

Despite patrolling such an incident might occur if there was lack of intelligence, he said adding that aspect was also being looked into.
