Radio collar for Sajnekhali tigress

KOLKATA: The foresters will radio-collar the three-year-old tigress, now undergoing treatment at the Sajnekhali beat office, before releasing it into the wild. Confirming the news, STR field director Soumitra Dasgupta said the move would help them monitor the tigress, which was captured this March from Pirkhali with a weak posterior.

“We have permission to collar ten tigers in the mangroves. And this one will be the first among them. We will soon contact the officials of Wildlife Institute of India ( WII) in Dehradun, who will collar the tigress. This time, an advanced and lighter set of collars will be used and will come off the tiger’s neck automatically after a few days,” he added.
