Peacocks die due to heat in MP

Almost half-a-dozen peacocks died due to excessive heat prevailing in the Morena district of Madhya Pradesh since Saturday.

MORENA (MP): Almost half-a-dozen peacocks died due to excessive heat prevailing in the Morena district of Madhya Pradesh since two days, official sources said on Monday.

However, forest officials have recovered carcasses of only three peacocks from the district's Haar village.

Last year due to excessive heat conditions, 61 peacocks lost their lives despite making several arrangements by the state's forest department to provide them with medicated drinking water.

"This year also the forest department had made arrangements to provide safe drinking water but still the birds did not survive," they added.

Nearly 72,000 peacocks live in Morena district and every year forest department undertake various measures to ensure their safety during summer season.
