SOUTH WALES: Environment chiefs are investigating after the bodies of more than 50 sharks were washed up on Britain's top beach.

It is feared the fish may have been caught in nets and dumped at sea by a trawler crew. Laura Campbell spotted the sharks when walking on Rhossili beach on the Gower Peninsula, South Wales, with her boyfriend.

The 24-year-old, from Berkshire said: "We saw sharks every metre or so. I think there were more than 50 in total. One of the sharks had a piece of fishing wire going through it and fishing gear had been left on the ground."

Rhossili was last year voted the best beach in Europe by Suitcase magazine.
