DEHRADUN: A six-member team of forest guards from Corbett National Park recovered mutilated carcasses of an 8-year-old tigress and a leopard from two different places in Uttarakhand’s Ramnagar forest division on Saturday.

Corbett Park warden Satish Upadhyaya said the carcasses were recovered around 8am after they got some information about it from wildlife activists.

Updhyaya said the carcasses had deep multiple injuries on different parts of their bodies.

Upadhyay and sub-divisional officer Umesh Joshi said post-mortem examination report was yet to come. A source said possibility that these animals were poached cannot be ruled out.

Members of People's For Animals and other wildlife activists have demanded a probe by an independent agency to find out the exact cause for the deaths.
