LUCKNOW: The state has been made greener by planting about five crore saplings.

This is more than the plantation target set by the forest department for this year.

PCCF, UP, JS Asthana said that against the target of 49,500 hectare, the department has planted on 52,963 hectare.

In the fisher forest area in Etawah, more than one lakh saplings have been planted under the eco-restoration programme.

In the fisher forest, the department has prepared grid of five hectare and is planting the same varieties in the single grid.

Under the scheme to create green belts of 50/100 hectare, the state has, so far, planted 10.82 lakh trees.
