Leopard cub found dead

PITHORAGARH: A leopard cub has been found dead in the district while another died during treatment, a senior forest official said.

"A one and half-years-old male leopard was found dead near the fields of a village on Thursday. As its neck bore a deep wound, the 40 cm-long cub might have died during a fight with another leopard," Ram Gopal Verma, District Forest Officer (DFO) Pithoragarh said.

"Another female one, which was being treated by our veterinary Surgeon for three days after it was found injured in the Birgoly forest area, has succumbed to her injuries, he said.

However, Assistant Conservator of Forest S S Vaishya said both the cubs were having canine injuries on their neck, and they might have died due to "in-fight for possession of female beasts" since, this being their conceiving season.
