Jammu curfew kills two leopards
Two leopards have died in Manda Wildlife Park here of starvation due to non-availability of meat following the ongoing Amarnath land transfer agitation, wildlife department officials said.
"The duo died as staff could not feed them properly in view of the curfew and absence from duties," they said.
One male leopard, named raja, was found dead in the park last night. Raja, was living in the park for the past 19 years and was brought from the Sunderbani forest belt of Rajouri district in 1989.
On August 10, a 17-year-old female leopard had died under mysterious circumstances. Reshma was brought in injured condition from Nagrota Hills in 2004, they said.
The wildlife department has ordered a probe into the deaths.
